The Burgundy Bride is Back ...

After a rather delightful Christmas ... one full of family, friends, yummy food & wine, board games, thoughtful gifts, and approximately 12 inches of snow in Virginia Beach.  Yes - for the first time in my 27 years of holiday celebrations - I experienced a white Christmas.  In fact, it was such a white Christmas that my silver Honda Civic is currently sitting in my driveway still covered in snow (thus obviously, undriven) three days later.  The flurries starting falling on Christmas evening and have left my hometown (one not used to more than 1 inch of snow) practically paralyzed ever since.

Of course, the first few inches of snow generated tons of joy for both Mr. BB & myself.  We drank a few celebatory momosas, rode in a friend's four wheeler in the snow, and made the typical snowman along with enough turkey chili for two days.  Last night, however, marked the first feelings of cabin fever, and we both decided to use our "time-off while stuck inside" to our advantage.

Luckily, my parents live only a neighborhood away, and we were able to drive Mr. BB's Jeep Cherokee over for a much-needed wedding meeting.  Topics discussed at the meeting, which was comprised of myself, Mr. BB, my mother, sister/MOH, and an occasional cameo of my brother and dad, included:
  • Dates of Pre-Wedding Events
  • LED Throwies (Still Don't Really Understand this ... )
  • Overall To-Do List
  • Idea for Invitations
Perhaps motivated by the start of productivity (or the fear of all that needs to be done) ... I continued in "wedding mode" when I got home and started on our slideshows for the wedding.  Can't wait to share details on our invites tomorrow!  Until then ...

Making My List & Checking It Twice ...

I am definitely a list person; that is, I appreciate the value of a to-do list in my daily life.  I always have a to-do list on my desk at school (sometimes 2), usually have a to-do list on my fridge at home, and, most recently, have been using a to-do list from my palm cell phone.  I love lists so much that I don't know that I could function without them, and when I am able to cross an item off of my list, it is quite thrilling.

Tonight is the last night before my last day of school before a week and a half holiday break - one that is much needed & that I am really looking forward to.  And with a break, comes a change in my routine (which, truthfully, bothers me a little, and ,yes, I am aware that this is a sign of a type A personality ... much like my habit of writing lists).  Therefore, I may find it difficult to update my blog as normal before and during the coming days, so ...

I wanted to take this opportunity to - write a list.  I fully plan on taking advantage of my time off to conquer some of the wedding tasks that have been looming over me during my busy last few months ... and know that I will be more likely to complete them if I officially write them here.  Here goes:

Wedding Tasks to Complete Over My Break:

1.  Finish DIY cones that we started at my bridesmaid dinner, and then restarted on one Sunday afternoon.
2.  Organize & update wedding binder. (That has gotten extremely messy lately ... )
3.  Meet with day-of-wedding-planner to ................. (I am sure there is a lot that we have to talk about.)
4.  Schedule dates for pre-wedding events.
5.  Begin the rather daunting task of creating the invitation.

I, obviously, could continue the list here, but don't want to disapoint myself if I can't get it all done.  So, Merry Christmas - enjoy your own holiday/break, and I will be back soon to update if I was able to thrill myself by checking off these five tasks.  Until then ...

Twas four days before Christmas ...

And I'm sitting in the foyer at my school selling tickets for our JV basketball game, attempting to multi-task by updating my blog, searching through my usual wedding websites, and simultaneously planning my lesson for when I return to school in January 2011(The countdown has begun - only 2 more days of school before my favorite holiday is officially here & I have 1 week & a half of freedom!).

So, as I sit here surrounded by fashion textbooks, laptop, and cash box for those brave enough to face the cold air to attend this game ... what is on my wedding mind?  Since, as previously posted, I haven't had much of a chance to check off my to-do list with the mayhem of the holiday season - I don't have any wedding updates to share.  However, I have been thinking exciting wedding thoughts today ...

Obviously, I am beyond ecstatic for my June wedding to Mr. BB.  I can hardly wait until the day finally gets here (although I need to wait, considering the rather large amount of tasks that need to be complete before it does!) ... and know that each & every moment of that day will be memorable.  Every once in a while, I get extra excited about a particular moment that I know that day will entail ... and and last night was one of them.  I was, once again, browsing on wedding websites, and came upon a video from an absolutely romantic wedding.  And it was one specific part of their video that brought a few tears to my eyes:

Here is the video:

And for those of you who know me, and my MOH who will be giving a speech at my wedding this June, you will also know which part of the video brought on the tears.  No pressure, Lex! :)

Tis' the Season ...

To be busy!  Christmas has always been my favorite holiday ... I can't resist the sounds of holiday tunes, sights of bright lights, smells of homemade cookies, and of course, the hustle & bustle at the mall.  I have my mother's love of the winter holiday to thank for this infatuation, and even though I am now 27 years of age, I still enjoy our family traditions just the same.  However, with each year of seniority, I come to a new understanding of why some think of Christmas as more of a stressful time than a festive one.  And although it remains my favorite holiday, this year, December has come with a bit of stress and anxiety with the ever-increasing list of gifts to buy, cards to send, and celebrations to attend.

So, tonight concludes a weekend of shopping (in fact, three days in a row, to be exact), baking, & ornament-making.  I (think) I have finally checked off each special person on my "to buy for" 2010 list.  And, even though my mind has been focused on this important list, my June wedding always is on my brain ... so I wanted to share the find my mother & I had yesterday morning.  These mason jars:

Will hang on shepard hooks on the garden path that will serve as our aisle this June.  We were super excited to find them on sale (2 of my favorite words!) yesterday morning at Kirklands home goods store in our local mall.  Good work, mom!  They have been added to the ever-expanding wedding room ...

Snowed In ... Sort of ...

As I am sitting here, cozy in my bed with my space heater positioned directly in front of me ... the view from my window is the aftermath of winter storm 2010 (as they are referring to on our local news station!).  Being a Virginia Beach local, I am used to the fact that mayem occurs at the sight of the first flurry:  schools close, excited children attempt to make a snow man out of our one inch of snow, and our weatherman puts on his snowflake pin while providing 24-hour coverage.

So how did I spend my snow day off from school?  I was the first to arrive at the mall (shortly after inquiring on its adjusted holiday hours) in order to search for the perfect gifts for those left on my list.  Once safe at home, just as the snow started falling, I wrapped all of my gifts & baked holiday pound cakes for my co-workers.  Aaah, the holidays!  Truly, the most wonderful time of the year! (Second for me, now, to the month of June, which will be my anniversary!).  By the way, am I really old enough to have an anniversary?

My weekend is now free to partake in some more holiday traditions (getting the tree, baking my usual oatmeal cookies, & exchanging ornaments with my two best friends) ... and hopefully to fit in a wedding DIY project or two.  With a June wedding fast-approaching, there is no room for a complete diversion of wedding planning time!  Happy weekend, stay warm!

Who Said Being a Teacher Didn't Have Perks?

I love my job ... really.  Of course, we all have of those days at work in which we would rather be anywhere else, with anyone else, and doing, simply, something else.  But for me, those days are rare and far between.  I enjoy teaching my daily fashion lessons, planning exciting shows & field trips, and of course, watching my high school juniors & seniors mature each year.  I am lucky to have a good relationship with the majority of my students - and recognize the importance of getting to know them beyond the four walls of my classroom.

As I previously posted, my students played a large part in my engagement as many of them were on stage as Mr. BB proposed to me last February. Their first response after all the screaming & excitement died down?  "Are we going to be invited to the wedding?"  ... Even as a newly engaged women with little to no knowledge in wedding planning, I was sure that my guest list wasn't going to be expansive enough to fit my 120 person roster each year.  However, my mom had the perfect way to incorporate my students into my June wedding - while providing some extra help at the same time.

A good amount of my students will be present at my wedding - completing tasks such as helping watch the kids, waitressing, and ... doing hair?!  Yes - yesterday, in between our journal & class assignment - I asked one of my very talented young ladies if she would do my hair on my wedding day.   After witnessing (first-hand) her enviable abilities at our fashion show last Thursday, I couldn't help but see if she would be willing to play such an important role.  And - she said yes

So - another check!  I am super excited to have my student (who, did I mention, is gifted in hair-do abilities!) do my hair on my wedding day.  Yet another reason I am lucky to have the job that I do!

Say Yes to the Dress(es)?

Mom - DON'T FREAK OUT!  I absolutely love my wedding dress and can hardly wait to wear it this June!  The title to this blog entry is NOT meant as a start to a search for a replacement to my beautiful dress ...

However, the last couple of days, my type A brain (which is constantly racing on wedding plans, holiday to-do lists, school lesson plans, and fashion wishes, sometimes all at the same time) has been thinking about a second dress.  This dress would be worn at the end of the reception, before Mr. BB & I make our exit on the boat off the dock in my great aunt's backyard (details on our exit to come!).  Example:  When Annie Banks changes into her white suit before leaving her sweet, adorable wedding in one of my favorite childhood movies, "Father of the Bride."

Again, Mom - DON'T FREAK OUT!  You & I both know that there are several white dresses (still with tags) in my closet that would fit the bill.  We have found quite a few affordable, bride-worthy white dresses at my two favorite stores, Forever 21 and H&M since my February engagement.  (Mom:  I have one, in particular, in mind!).

So why the sudden thoughts of a second dress?  Two reasons:

(1) Like most other fashion-obsessed ladies, I have several fashion icons, and one of them happens to be the recently married Nicole Richie.  While pictures of her wedding day look have not yet been released (I can hardly wait!!!) ... news of her three Marchesa dresses at her wedding has.  One for the ceremony, one for the reception, and another for her exit with her new husband!  Simply a second dress for me would do ...

(2)  While searching through my daily wedding blogs/websites yesterday, I came upon the most romantic wedding ... one in which the bride wore an absoutely darling reception dress.

She found it for $34.00!

What do you think?  At first - the idea of taking off my stunning, rather expensive, wedding dress for even a second on my wedding day seeemed absolutely out of the question.  But now I am warming up to the idea ... I guess time will tell. :)

I'm Dreaming of A ...

Tropical honeymoon.  Is that asking too much?  I can be flexible ... Jamaica, Antigua, St. Lucia, the Dominican ... any of these will do.  I would even be super excited to pack my newlywed bags for a trip to Mexico (even though my college spring break to Puerto Vallarta was a bust, I am sure that Mr. BB & I would have an amazing, memorable start to our life together there).

Happy Monday - I am back from a long & eventful weekend.  My Thursday evening fashion show was a success, Mr. BB & I headed to Charlotte early Friday, and I was able to stand next to one of my sorority sisters/bridesmaids/best friends on Sat. evening as she married the man of her dreams.

A Picture With the Beautiful Bride
(Congrats, again, Karie!)

So why the thoughts of Mr. BB & I laying on the beach with a pina colada in hand, specifically on this Monday in December?  Well, for one, though I thouroughly enjoy the sight of snow flurries outside my classroom window, it has been quite the chilly day and therefore, a week of fun in the sun is even more desirable.  Secondly, my favorite December newlywed (pictured above) left the chill this morning for the lovely island of St. Lucia ... and I have been envious ever since.

Now that our June wedding is getting closer - it is definitely time to get thinking of our own first week of marriage and where we will be located for it ... We certainly will deserve a relaxing week after 18 months of wedding planning.  So tonight, you may find me bundled up in my pink Snuggie, searching through travel magazines ... right before I head to 7-11 for a (few) lottery ticket(s) tomorrow.

Dear Wedding,

I wanted to take this opportunity to apologize to you for the fact that I have been neglecting you (as mentioned in my previous posts) over the past couple of weeks.  With the exception of a quick appointment to try on my wedding day attire & choose a perfect flower girl dress, along with a daily browse through my favorite wedding websites & blogs (had to make the time for this!) ... I realize that I have had to focus my attention on my high school fashion show that will take place tomorrow night.

Wedding, I promise that this Monday, you will once again become the center of my attention and that I will provide you with the care & nurturing that you deserve.  But as they quote says "Life doesn't stop for anybody" (or anything!), and in the meantime ...

I wanted to wish the best of luck to the hard-working, determined young adults who I am lucky to call my students.  All of your effort will be paid off tomorrow night when you stun the audience with your talent on stage!  I am proud of each of you! :)

And, secondly, to my fabulous sorority sister (and one of the only people I know to read my blog!) ... you will make a beautiful bride on Saturday & I can't wait to stand next to you as you marry a great man!  Congratulations to you both!

So, wedding, after I complete the (sometimes daunting) task of producing my yearly fashion show tomorrow night, and then head to Charlotte with my FI to celebrate the wedding of one of my own bridesmaids ... we will reunite.

Until then ... And With Love,
Ashley

A Precious, Plaid Flower Girl Dress: Check!

An apology is in order ... I realize it has been longer than usual since I have last been able to update my "blog" (never thought I would say that?!).  The reason for my absence ... my annual fashion show, which will take place in exactly 48 hours & 14 minutes.  Before taking on the task of planning my June wedding, the largest, grandest affair I had planned prior was the fashion show each year at my high school.  And a large affair it is - one in which approximately 800 people attend, 50 models perform, local stores lend their merchandise, sets are built, esc. ... Towards the end of the planning, my life belongs to my students and this show.  (Example:  While thouroughly enjoying being alone while sitting down on the toilet to pee the other day, I was interrupted by the sounds of my senior girls who needed their planner signed to come work on props in my room).

I still can't believe it was this event last year in which I accepted a proposal from Mr. BB & thus began my journey of wedding planning that will culminate on June 25th.  Needless to say - I am looking forward to the conclusion of a successful fashion show on Thursday night, so that I am able to fully focus on my wedding planning once again.

In the midst of my fashion show craziness, I was able to get an all-important check off the wedding to-do list.  While trying on my dress (just as beautiful as I had remembered, by the way!) ... we spotted the most precious flower girl dress.  The dress fits our theme perfectly, and will look absolutely adorable on our 3 flower girls!

In Green/Pink

Can't wait to see the girls in the dresses in June!  While I know some brides/grooms would rather leave the children out of the wedding day festivities ... some of my favorite moments at weddings have been those unexpected ones from the little ones!  Maybe that's why we picked 3 flower girls & 2 ring bearers?!

I Said Yes to the Dress ... And Now It's In!

As another week comes to an end, I am feeling my usual euphoria at the thought of the weekend.  The motivation of two days without students or a 5 AM alarm clock & with a comfortable wardrobe of jeans/flats and extra time with my FI, family, & friends, is what gets me through most work weeks.

But, as I mentioned yesterday, this weekend is extra special since my wedding dress (AKA: The most significant dress of my life!) has come in and I get to see it, touch it, & hold it tomorrow!  The appointment is set for 2 PM and, with my mother & sister in tow, we will be sure to arrive promptly for this ultra important appointment.

So, although I assure you that there are 1,998,245 other items on the wedding TO-DO list for the weekend ahead ... the dress seems to be the only thing on my mind.  And in honor of that dress - I thought I would share my top 5 favorite aspects of it tonight (even though we ordered the dress in June, and I haven't seen it since then, I can picture it in my mind as if it was hanging in front of me right now!):

(Mr. BB - this is yet another post in which you may not read on!)

5.  My mom & sister love the dress as much as I do.  Even after watching multiple episodes of Say Yes To the Dress,  in which Randy explained that the only person who needs to love the dress is the bride herself ... I know that I could never have chosen a wedding dress that both of them didn't love.

4.  Speaking of family - both my dad and brother also saw & approved of the dress.  Yes - my dad and brother (who are the manliest of men) - took a break from installing granite to walk into the swanky bridal boutique in which I found the dress to watch me stand on the podium in veil & all.  My dad said the dress was beautiful right before my brother called it amazing.  It was later that night that I found out they had planned their reponses on the truck ride over from the job site before they saw the dress.  I did say they were "manly" men.

3.  The dress is more traditional than I thought it would be - and I love that.  I have mentioned before that I am a fashion teacher with a serious addiction to anything fashion.  As a result, when I first thought about my wedding dress - I pictured a trendy dress unlike one I had ever seen.  It wasn't until I started trying on dresses, dresses, & more dresses that I realized the more traditional dresses made me feel more beautiful.  Furthermore - who wants to look back at pictures of their wedding dress with that "What was I thinking?" sinking feeling ... Have you seen 80's brides?

2.  The dress fits my vintage, garden party approach to my wedding day.  On another one of my favorite wedding shows (My Fair Wedding With David Tutera)  ... he explains how the dress really is the centerpiece to the whole occasion (sorry, grooms!).  I couldn't agree more - and since the vintage, garden theme is a reflection of my personality - fitting the dress to the theme was never a problem.

1.  The dress makes me feel like a bride - and I can't wait to see Mr. BB while I am wearing it.  I know he will love it, and I seriously have dreams about the first time he sees me in it.

The Pit & The Peak

Ok.  I admit it.  I am a reality tv addict.  The mere thought of daily life without it makes me uncomfortable.  The only reason that I am so quick to admit it is because I know I can't be the only one ...If reality tv ratings weren't high, would television producers continue to come up with innovative new reality shows such as Skating with the Stars, Bridalplasty, & The Real Housewives of OC, Atlanta, New Jersey, DC, esc.?!

The reason that I am calling attention to my addiction to reality tv is this:  as a result of viewing a recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Mr. BB and I have started a new nightly tradition.  Last night was officially the third night of our pit & peak new tradition (I understand that 3 nights may not yet be referred to as a long-standing tradition, but we have every intention to continue).  What is the pit & peak?  The Kardashians, as children, would share the pit and the peak of their day each night at the dinner table.  Cute idea, right?!  I thought this would be the perfect way for Mr. BB & I to unwind after a long day at work.

So tonight - after my long day at work - I wanted to share the peak of my day that I shared with Mr. BB last night.  Yesterday - at approximately 1:45 PM, my sales associate (and now friend!) called to share the great news that MY WEDDING DRESS CAME IN!  I have an appointment to try it on for Friday with my mom & sister and can hardly wait until then!  The dress was ordered in July and I think I almost forgot exactly what it looks like.  And as a fashion teacher and most likely any bride would feel - I understand the importance of the dress and the significant role it plays on the wedding day. Stay tuned for details ...

Oh - and you wanted to know the pit of my day yesterday?  Ironic - it came last night when the cable went out as I was watching one of my favorite reality shows.

Hooray for DIY

Other than sucessfully completing a 12 hour shopping spree, eating some tasty turkey, and drinking some (and then some) wine this past weekend ... I did continue on a DIY project that I had previously begun.  This specific DIY project (one of the many we have on the to do list before our June wedding!) is one that we actually started on at the bridesmaid dress dinner a few weeks back.  And as promised, I wanted to share the details of our "send-off confetti cones."  So here goes ...

I have to give credit, yet again, to my mother for having the inspiration for this project.  She most likely came across the idea on one of her afternoons browsing wedding blogs on the web, but isn't life all about taking ideas and making them your own?  The "send-off confetti cones" will be given to each guest prior to the ceremony (by my students!) - in hopes that they will toss the confetti in the air as Mr. BB & I walk back down the aisle after we are pronounced husband and wife.  Here are the materials that we used:

  • A variety of printed scrapbook paper (Micheals, $1 a piece)
  • Doilies (Micheals, Less than $1 a piece)
  • Double Stick Tape
  • A Label (Can Be Made On Your Home Computer)
  • Ribbon for Bows
Making our "send-off confetti cones" is super easy - but does take some time.  You simply (1) cut the printed scrapbook paper in the shape of a circle, (2) roll the circle paper into a cone and stick together with double stick tape, (3) tape the doile to the top, (4) glue on the label, (5) tie the ribbon into a bow, and finally, (6) glue on the bow.

Here are completed cones:

 Notice the Saying:
As Ashley & Joe Come Your Way, Toss the Confetti and Shout Hooray!

Of the 150 "send-off confetti cones" that we will need by our June nuptials, we have approximately 30 completed.  The plan is (despite my ADD and thus desire to work 5-6 projects at once) to focus on completing this DIY project before beginning another ... And before you know it, Mr. BB & I will be walking down the aisle as husband and wife as those closest to us shout HOORAY!

A Black Friday With A Wedding Purchase ...

Happy Monday!  (Is that an oxymoron?!)  Hope you all had a relaxing, love-filled holiday with lots of yummy food along precious time with your family & friends.  And if you are anything like me & my loved ones - time that included some serious Black Friday shopping.  For the third year in a row, my mother, sister & I woke up at 2 AM to join the crowds of dedicated shoppers in search of the perfect deal.  As seasoned Black Friday veterans, we knew exactly what to expect and even though none of us were in the market for a flat screen tv, Dell laptop, or $3.00 toaster - we each appreciate the official kick-off to the holiday shopping season and wouldn't miss it.  In fact - this November - as a direct result of the rather hefty tab of our June DIY garden wedding -  we needed the doorbuster deals at Kohl's & Macy's more than ever.

Much Needed Caffeine Before Hitting the Crowds

Like most other years, the day ended at about 7 PM  (impressive, huh?!) - with a packed trunk & empty wallets.  We scored on a camera at Kohl's, skinny jeans at Penney's, and the usual jacket for Dad @ Old Navy.  However, we knew the day couldn't go by without a purchase for the wedding, and this purchase was for Mr. BB ... So, if you are Mr. BB, DO NOT READ ON!

As previously posted, I am lucky to have a future husband & mother who understand my desire for an informal wedding, one that doesn't necassarily follow the traditional rules of weddings.  So, as many other grooms - Mr. BB has expressed his desire to wear Vans on our wedding day.  I couldn't agree more - he wears his favorite shoe brand most other days - so why should this day be any different?!  We found the perfect pair - and knew we had hit the shopping jackpot when they were even on sale.  Here is the link to a picture of the pair we encountered at Penney's (at approximately 5:30 AM):

So - another weekend down, another purchase for the wedding accomplished.  If only they had catering as a doorbuster deal ...

10 Reasons To Be Thankful ... For a Wedding

Since today marked the last day that I will see my students before Thanksgiving, I took the opportunity to have them create thanksgiving centerpieces to put on their dinner tables tomorrow.  I realize that I teach high school students - and this may not sound like the typical, rigorous high school assignment - but I understand the importance of getting their creative juices flowing and offering them a break from their demanding core classes.  And besides, I myself love any chance for an art project (Exhibit A:  My June DIY Garden Party Wedding!).

On each centerpiece, the students were asked to write what they were thankful for.  (Numerous times - one reason they were thankful for each leave on the tree).  See below:

From http://www.orientaltrading.com/:  $4.99 for One Dozen
(Great Website for Affordable Crafts, Supplies, & Novelty Items)

The students had a hard time thinking of one reason why they were thankful this Thanksgiving - and thus, filling the entire tree was quite the feat.  It made me think about how much a few years of age & maturity will do for you ... at about 10 years their senior, my years since high school have helped me to realize how thankful I am for many reasons in my life.

I know that those closest to me already know how thankful I am for each of them.  So, on this thanksgiving eve, I thought I would write a list of the 10 reasons I am specifically thankful to be planning a wedding.  And here they are:

10.  A wedding provides an outlet for my creativity.
9.  A wedding gives me a reason for shop ... not only for a wedding gown ... but for a rehearsal dinner dress, a bridal shower dress, an outfit for the bachelorette party, bridesmaid lunch, and the list goes on.
(Although I am not sure if I needed a reason to shop?)
8.  A wedding has given me the chance to go through tons of old pictures from my childhood ... bringing back a flood of nostalgic memories.
7.  A wedding allows you to attend lots of tastings ... for cake (my favorite) & yummy food.
6.  A wedding has given me extra time to spend with my future family, through not only celebrations, but days of DIYing & lots of wedding meetings.
5.  A wedding ends with a honeymoon - is is time for that yet?
4.  A wedding will entail a dance with my dad.  And as a "daddy's little girl," I know this will moment will be a memorable one.
3.  A wedding has given me the opportunity to spend lots of extra time with my mom - who has made this experience so much better.  And I know I couldn't do it without her.
2.  A year and a half of wedding planning will be worth it in the end - when I walk down the aisle to Mr. BB.
1.  A wedding is how the story begins ... to your new life as husband & wife.

Happy Thanksgiving!  Enjoy precious time with your own loved ones.

Feeling Fortunate

An apology is in order for the lack of post yesterday ... and for the record, I had every intention of a full post and was ready to write it when I returned home from school.  That was until I was greeted by a rather pesky virus on my Pink Dell Laptop - and soon after, had a mental breakdown at the thought of life without a computer placed conveniently by my bedside table.  (Is anyone else absolutely addicted to their computer - to the point where a world without it seems almost unbearable?!) Luckily - Mr. BB, who, was most likely motivated by fear of dealing with my world without that laptop - was able to successfully fix my computer last night and as a result, my Tuesday afternoon has been much better than my Monday one was.

The post I had planned to write yesterday was going to include details of my "bridesmaid dress dinner" this past weekend.  As I shared last week, I had invited my bridesmaids over to my mother's house for a seasonal dinner of chili & wine.  The reason?  To get their beautiful (if I do say so myself!) dresses that they will wear this June!  Here is how my creative mother displayed their dresses at her home (which, by the way, is already adorned in Christmas decorations - impressive or what?!) ...

The Jim Hjelm, Pear Color Dresses my 9 Bridesmaids will Wear in June
(Only Ones are Displayed for those In-Town Maids)

My MOH (& Sister) With Her Dress

The night was the perfect chance to unwind during such a stressful time with those special ladies who will be by my side this June.  It was the ideal opportunity to share some of the details we have been working on - and, additionally, to get a head-start on one of our many DIY projects for my June garden wedding.  Stay tuned for details ...

I can't overstate how lucky I feel to have so many supportive people in my life - those whoo are able to rescue me when I need to take a virus off my computer, make chili in a crock pot, or to simply be there to laugh on a Saturday night.  Thank you for making me one happy burgundy bride. :)  I am truly fortunate.

A Bowl of Chili With the Girls ...

So as another week comes to an end (and the countdown to my June wedding gets closer), I, as usual, get anxious for the well-deserved weekend.  It is the thought of relaxing and spending time with my family & friends that gets me through most work weeks, and I was especially motivated this week by the plans to spend Sat. night with my lovely bridesmaids.  I had sent them the following invitation a couple of weeks ago:

I recently had the opportunity to pick up their bridesmaid dresses (as stated on a previous post), and was super excited to give them their pear colored, strapless dresses that they will wear in June.  And after initially planning to take each dress by their house, I decided it was a better idea to have a girls dinner & make a night of it.  (Who doesn't jump at the chance to have yummy food & drinks with your girls?!)  So after my mom agreed to make season-friendly turkey chili in her crock pot, and I planned to get the (bottles of) wine ... I have been looking to our first "bridesmaid dinner" ever since!  And if you noticed that I said first, it was not by accident - I hope that we are able to have more nights such as this in the upcoming months before the big day.  I recognize the importance of my bridesmaids, and know that the day would not be the same without each of them standing next to me after I walk down the aisle.

My mom and I are also taking this opportunity (and advantage of the extra hands!) to complete one of our many DIY projects for the wedding.  Stay tuned for pictures on Monday ...

A Rehearsal Dinner in (Cowboy) Boots

Why is it that no one ever tells you, upon your engagement, that you have to think about planning a rehearsal dinner - in addition to your ceremony & reception?  So in essence - you are planning three events rather than just the one that is most thought about.  And not to mention - planning must go into all of the prior events as well, such as the bachelorette party, bridal shower, bridesmaid luncheon, esc.  NOT THAT I AM COMPLAINING ... I recognize how lucky I am to have such a loving family & friends to celebrate this exciting moment with us, that I am creating most of this extra planning on my own, and that I will (secretly) miss all of this when I am a married woman!

*However, on a side note, I am currently considering proposing a "wedding planning leave" for the work force (Much like a maternity leave for pregnant moms-to-be, but instead, for brides!)  Genius, right?!  I wonder what my boss will think?!

So back to the point - being the type A/creative mind that I am - I have certainly put some thought into the night before my June 25th garden wedding day.  And Mr. BB's parents (my future in-laws) have been understanding with my somewhat eccentric personality and thus desire to have a "different/creative" rehearsal dinner.  I wanted the night to reflect the mood of the wedding ceremony & reception, and therefore could not think of a better place than a local barn, of course!  And much to my satisfaction (and surprise!), they do have barns available to rent  in Va. Beach for events such as ours!  I am super happy with the venue we have chosen (as you can see from my face below!) ...

Inside @ the Picnic Tables - Where Our Guests will Sit!
(Columns behind are the perfect blank canvas for decorating!)

Other Side of the Barn - The Bar
(Most Likely the Most Visited Spot of the Night)

Mr. BB & I outside by the petting zoo - which will be open the night of our dinner!

After my mom & I visited the Hunt Club Farm  - we knew it would be the perfect place!  And Mr. BB and his mom came back to visit and were also impressed!  Visions of cowboy boots, red tulle & plaid are already dancing in my head .... More inspiration for the rehearsal dinner to come soon ...

To First Look or Not To First Look ...

That seriously is the question.  And for those of you who have no idea what a first look is, don't feel bad ... I didn't either until about 3 months ago, after reading about couples who had gone this route on various wedding blogs.  A first look is when the couple sees each other before the traditional "walk down the aisle" moment.  It typically is done at a location previously decided, and with the photographer/videographer present to capture the candid moment.  And before I move on ... I fully understand the shock that this unconventional concept can bring to those who are first hearing it (On a side note - I am thankful that my dear grandmother, who is still having a hard time understanding the cornhole boards & cupcakes at the reception - does not currently read my blog.).  I also did not comprehend any potential benefits when first hearing of this new trend in weddings ... but after much thought & research on the topic, here are the reasons that I am on the verge of changing my mind:

1.  Yes, I do agree that a first look defies tradition, but so does the rest of my wedding, i.e. the cornhole boards & cupcakes previously mentioned, in addition to a garden ceremony, picnic tables, and sparkler send-off, just to name a few.
2.  A first look provides an opportunity for the (future) bride & groom to share valuable one-on-one time with each other ... time that may be hard to find amidst the excitement at the ceremony/reception.
3.  After reading blogs from those brides who had done a first look (which, by the way, all say that they are satisfied with their decision - I am yet to read one from a bride who was not!) ... the consesus seems to be that it also alleviates a lot of the "pre-wedding jitters" you often hear of before that walk down the aisle.
4.  A first look provides more time for pictures (rather than doing them all immediatly following the ceremony), thus allowing more time for the bride & groom to spend at the wedding reception that you have spent months planning for.  Isn't the standard "It went by so fast" comment one you hear entirely too often?
5.  And lastly - as Istated by a recently married bride on a blog I was reading recently- even if you have seen each other prior to the ceremony, that official walk down the aisle, in addition to the first moment that you hear the words "husband and wife" is always going to be special, memorable, & an absolutely extraordinary memory as you begin your life as a couple.

In conclusion, if I haven't sold you on the idea yet (and YES, Mr. BB - I am talking to you, too!) ... Watch this couple's video (As you will soon see, they had their own first look!):

Yet Another Favorite Website ...

Lately, it seems like I am adding another favorite to my Pink Dell Computer on a daily basis.  (Which means that NO, I NEVER am caught on wedding websites while hard at work at my desktop computer at school, I promise!) :) While I have been a true "internet addict" for the past few years now ...  it wasn't until I was engaged that I found myself spending countless hours completely captivated by the numerous bridal blogs & wedding websites available in cyberspace .  I sometimes wonder what brides did before etsy, http://www.weddingbee.com/,  and other favorites like http://www.greenweddingshoes.com/?!!    The thought of wedding planning without them is almost unbearable ... and while the VAST AMOUNT of wedding resources can certainly can become overwhelming, my June garden party wedding would not happen without the inspiration, DIY projects, & advice I have benefited from online!

This weekend, I found yet another site that I have fallen in love with.  In fact, I am such a fan of http://www.thinkgarnish.com/ that I have officially added it to my list of "must-see" websites that I routinely check throughout the week.  And part of my fixation attributed to this site is that while it has several ideas specifically for weddings, the site also has a section with creative ideas for any occasion.  Here is one of my favorites:

Doesn't part of the beauty of gifts lie in the presentation?  These boxes, for the affordable price of $1 a box, are precious, right?!!  I plan to use these to package wine bottles for my bridesmaids, and maybe even for a wedding gift to a wedding that we attend?

Check out http://www.thinkgarnish.com/ for other affordable, creative products & tons of inspiration!  Is it weird that I get this excited over a new website?

My Fairytale Ending, And Beginning to LOTS of Planning!

Tonight is much like most other nights have been lately - I am unwinding after the day by getting lost in "real weddings" online and blogging on my own current wedding details.  The only exception is that (1) - with the time change, it is a little darker outside and (2) my heart is feeling a little heavier than usual.  Why?  My technologically savvy brother was able to upload our engagement video onto our website and simply seeing the first few seconds brings me back to the feeling of that special night.  It is astounding how watching a video or listening to a song can bring back emotions of an event so quickly.  Watching it reconfirms my thoughts of the importance of the videographer at our June wedding ...

I recognize how lucky I truly am to have such a signficant event caught on camera.  And Mr. BB, the thoughtful man that he is, planned it that way!  As mentioned previously, I am a fashion teacher and spend the better part of each year planning a fashion show that showcases clothing from local businesses in my area.  The annual show is attended by approximately 800 people, including my family as well as Mr. BB's, since his nieces both model childrens clothing in the show.  Last year the theme was "A Fairytale in Fashion," and needless to say, I got my fairytale ending ... After accepting flowers from the student leaders ON STAGE, I turned to see Mr. BB with a microphone in one hand.  He introduced himself to the audience, and then dropped to one knee amidst cheers and a shell-shocked (future) Burgundy Bride.

Visit Our Website For the Video:

Mr. BB did good - I know!  I am one lucky girl ... and, additionally, a girl who had been waiting on a proposal for a while (this story to come later!).

Wedding Party Weekend EXTRAVAGANZA!

As I mentioned in a previous post, my FI & I have a rather large wedding party - 9 bridesmaids, 9 groomsmen, 3 flower girls, & 2 ring bearers to be exact.  I guess it is fitting for us, since Mr. BB's high school senior quote was "Go Big or Go Home?" ... Didn't know I had such a good memory, did ya, honey?!!

And much like any other bride & groom, that large wedding party consists of family and friends from the many phases of our lives, and those who live both near and far from our hometown of Va. Beach.  So when Mr. BB's brother/best man suggested a wedding party weekend get-away,  we jumped at the chance.  Who wouldn't appreciate a relaxing weekend with those closest to you, and the opportunity to allow those special people to get to know each other better?  Throughout my wedding planning process, and especially through that of my recently married friends, I have gained a better understanding of what a wedding can really provide for a couple.  Other than that "piece of paper" and obviously "the best party of their life" ... a wedding provides an avenue for your true support system (those around you) to stabilize and to get to know each other better.  And it is truly that support system, and the bond that you have with each other, that will create that "happily-ever-after" ending that we all hope for!

Our wedding-party-weekend getaway is officially scheduled for Super Bowl weekend!  And look at the fancy house we found:

I couldn't think of a better place to kick-off the new year - and the countdown to our June wedding!

How important do you think it is for "pre-wedding" festivities?

Videography = Vital for the Burgundy Bride

As I mentioned yesterday - my mom made a MAJOR check off off our never-ending wedding to-do list this past weekend!  She met with and booked our videographer - and yes, Mom, I am truly thankful and now realize the importance of this element for our wedding day.

When my I first met with of our day-of-wedding-coordinator, she asked me what three things were most important to me on the day of my wedding.  And while I have always known that the photography would be at the top of my list - I did not include, much less even think about, videography.  In fact, it wasn't until the past few months of "wedding website stalking" ... that I knew a videographer was one aspect of my wedding day that I couldn't do without.  I think it was Ms. Apple Cider's video, one of my favorite wedding bees, that officially sold me on the concept.  See hers here:

Pretty incredible, right?!  The interview with the two before they take that long-awaited walk down the aisle is enough to make you teary-eyed.  And not to mention - the sweet, magical feel of their day is one I am trying to emulate for my own!

Much like pictures, a video will live on long after the food has been eaten, flowers have died, and the dress is packed away.  The thought of showing our video to grandchildren one day certainly makes the money seem more than worth it.  And doesn't something about putting pictures/video/music together bring a sense of nostalgia - ESPECIALLY on a day as monumental as your wedding day?!

Blogging in Bed

Our Bachelorette, Karie

The Bachelorette & Her Bridesmaids

So I am "blogging in bed" (a term I haven't used before!) right now after a celebatory weekend in Charlotte, NC.  And as you can see from the pictures above - it was a success!  Our bachelorette and future bride (less than 5 weeks to go, Karie!) ... truly experienced a weekend she won't ever forget.  And now - complete with these treasured memories and a variety of lingerie - she is officially ready to be a bride!

While discussing last-minute details on the phone Friday before I departed for the exciting event - Karie made a comment that made me realize how meaningful the tradition of bachelorette parties really is.  When describing how eager she was for the weekend, Karie shared her realization that "this was the only time she would have her 7 best friends tearing around the city with her for a whole weekend without any other distraction."  I agreed - we will all OBVIOUSLY be front & center for her big day this December - but at the wedding, her attention will have to be shared with her other guests as well.  (Oh yeah - and maybe her husband, too?!!)  Needless to say - this weekend provided a one-time opportunity to have much needed girl time and to get to know the important women from all the various phases of Karie's life.

It is crazy to think that the next time I will be in Charlotte for a bachelorette party it will be my own.  This weekend proved to make me that much more anxious!  Charlotte is an ideal place for a bachelorette party - and we definitely took advantage of the nightlife & yummy restaurants that the city has to offer! :)

More to come tomorrow ... my mom completed a big check off our list this weekend while I was in Charlotte and I can't wait to share it with you!

Bachelorette Party Bound ...

As I mentioned in a previous post, although I lived 27 good years without one time down the aisle as a bridesmaid, I am now getting a lot of practice at the role.   In between the time of my engagement and wedding, I will serve as a bridesmaid twice, and then once again a few months after I become a wife myself.  After successfully serving as one of my friend Sara's attendants in Oct. (she is now hitched & happy!) ... it is now on to bride #2 ... my sorority sister, Karie, who lives in Charlotte, NC.

This weekend marks the beginning of Karie's festivities - and tomorrow I will head to Charlotte to help her celebrate her last weekend as a single lady!  I am super excited to see her and am almost more anxious for this weekend than her wedding (is that wrong?!).

My sister/maid of honor is planning my own "Last Fling Before the Ring" for this May.  My fabulous crew of bridesmaids will join me in traveling to Charlotte for a weekend of festivities before I am officially married off to Mr. BB.  And since I am a creative mind who always loves a theme - I have already been brainstorming ideas with my sister ... our current favorite is a get wild theme!  The girls will wear some sort of animal print and the invitations could look something like this:

With my name instead, of course!  Am I the only one who loves invitations?!  I must admit it - a cute invite like this gets me that much more eager for the event!

And lastly, what will I wear to such an event?  Not quite sure yet - but I did find these fabulous shoes at Nordstrom:

Jessica Simpson Waleo Pump from Nordstrom, $99.95

Could't think of a better pair of shoes for that Last Fling Before the Ring with your girls!  What do you think of the theme/invite/shoes?!!

Off to Charlotte to commemorate Karie's final single days - be back on Monday!

A Lesson in Blogging ...

While I am completely aware that I am hardly an expert in blogging ... today, I took the opportunity to share the details of my new hobby with my students.  As mentioned in a previous post, I am a Fashion Marketing teacher and actually got engaged with many of my students in attendance at the fashion show I produce each year.  Since that memorable Feb. night, my students have been on this "wedding-planning" journey with me. I am constantly updating them with wedding details including DIY projects, fashion choices for my BIG day, and plans for the rehearsal dinner.  And since this blog has become one of the highlights in my OTHER current occupation (wedding planner/bride)- I decided that theburgundybride.blogspot should be no exception.

Today, my students learned the definition/meaning/purpose of a "blog" ... something that I learned myself just a few months ago.  I even pushed that giant computer cart into my classroom so they could each go online themselves ... and it didn't hurt that I ended up with a new total of 29 followers as a result!  :)

When my students get excited about all of the details for my June garden wedding, it gets me that much more anxious for the day to get here!  I can't wait to incorporate them into them into such a special day!

Details on how they will be incorporated to come ...

9 Bridesmaids = 1 Lucky Burgundy Bride

Leave it to me to be over the top.  And luckily, this time (for once!), my FI agreed to be over the top with me.  Immediatly after Mr. BB proposed to me on stage last February (have I shared this story?!), I knew who I wanted to stand next to me as my bridesmaids on our special day.  Even though integral details such as the SIZE of the wedding, PLACE where we would get married, or TIME OF YEAR had not yet been discussed ... it was never an option for me to not have these nine lovely ladies as a central part of my wedding day.  And yes, as mentioned before, I do realize that a total of nine bridesmaids is an extremely large wedding party ... but as soon as Mr. BB realized he had nine groomsmen to ask without having to involve our mail-man or neighbor across the street ... there was no turning back.

I wanted to ask my girls in a special way, so as hard as it was, I didn't immediatly ask ANY of them.  Instead, I spent my afternoons writing them each a letter.  It took some time - and there were SEVERAL instances in which I almost let the "icing off the wedding cake" (get it - instead of cat out of the bag?!!) ... but the wait was completely worth it.  After all the letters were complete, I mailed each bridesmaid their letter, along with the following collage ...

Which revealed all nine of my FABULOUS ladies!  Then it was time to wait for their phone calls/responses!  So fun!  I certainly am one lucky Burgundy Bride.

Mission Slideshow Has Begun ...

So I admit it - I am "that girl" who always has her camera and loves taking pictures of anything & everything.  I feel bad for Mr. BB who is burdened with the task of taking the pictures whether he likes it or not.  THANK YOU for that, honey, and I must commend you on being an extremely talented photographer. :)

When I first got engaged and started thinking about the reception, I knew that I wanted to incorporate a slideshow in some way.  Since our relationship began almost 12 years ago back in high school, Mr. BB & I have tons of pictures together throughout the many phases of our relationship.  (And yes, those pictures highlight the various interesting fashion/hairstyle choices I have had along the way.)  But it wasn't until my mom, the driving force behind this whole wedding extravanganza, came up with yet another genius idea - that I knew exactly how I wanted to incorporate a slideshow into our June garden wedding.

We have spent the weekend going through boxes of pictures from boxes that Mr. BB & I have together & boxes from both of our parents houses (Which is quite entertaining, I might add, and I recommend it whether you have a reason to do it or not!).  Our main goal is to gather pictures of my father & I, Mr. BB and his mother, and of course, of the two of us.  The day of the wedding, as we have our first dance as husband and wife, the slideshow with pictures of us will play on a large screen behind us.  As I dance with my dad (a guaranteed emotional moment for me), a slideshow will play with pictures of us, and when Mr. BB dances with his mother, their slideshow will play.  This will serve dual purposes - as it will provide a great way to incorporate the many pictures we have - and will also provide a diversion for our lack of dance ability.

THANKS, Mom, for the idea, as always.  Back to gathering pictures ...........

Bridesmaid Dresses ... CHECK!

It wasn't until I became a "wedding planner/bride" (Did you notice that wedding planner came first?) that I grew to appreciate the value of a check during this process ... but oh, how I love one now!  And by a check, I mean a check off the list of the 2,145,302+ tasks there are to complete when planning a wedding.

Today marked a check of the bridesmaid dresses - and for any fashion-obsessed bride - other than the dress, this certainly is a big check.  While I chose the dresses back in the summer and had each of my fabulous nine bridesmaids place their order (thanks girls!), today they actually came in!!!!!!!!!  And it was completely by accident that we were in my favorite bridal store, Pure English, to find out that they were here.  If I must confess, when we found out that they were in, we were actually there to stalk them, as usual, because my mother and I love that place so much.  In fact, we were actually thinking of inviting the owner and all of her sales associates to the wedding.

So here they are, the big reveal ...

Jim Hjlem, Style 5054, Color:  Pear

The dress caught my eye because it just screamed garden party, and because I knew it would be flattering to the shapes of all of my girls.  And yes, it also happened to match the floral print shoes that I had already found for them to wear.  Pictures of those to come ...

Christmas in October!

Yes - I do realize that the rest of the world is consumed in the details of their Halloween costume, pumpkin carving, and candy for trick-or-treaters ... but in my house, it's Christmas that is on my mind.  It came early this year!  That is, in the sense that I was greeted at my door yesterday by my SECOND favorite man ... don't worry honey, you are definitely the first!  And if you were wondering, my SECOND favorite man was dressed in a UPS uniform and was bearing gifts!  He had a box marked Forever 21 on the outside.  My heart skips a beat every time that I see those words, beautifully written in that same font I have grown to love so much.

Now why does this pertain to my June wedding, you ask?  While perusing http://www.forever21.com/ last week, as I do most days, I found what appeared to be the perfect short, white lace dress - fit for a bride.  It's not what you are thinking ... while I absolutely adore Forever 21, I acknowledge the fact (halfway unwillingly) that I cannot get my wedding dress from there.  This dress, however, ...

Would be absolutely perfect for a bride on her rehearsal dinner, bachelorette party, bridal shower, bridal luncheon, esc.  And at the affordable price of $27.80 (Did I mention my adoration for Forever 21?), who could resist?

Birdcage or Fingertip Veil?

Not for Mr. BB's Eyes ... Wedding Day Style Will Be Addressed!

The very topic of today's blog entry is the reason why I am loving the experience of being a blogger ... because, other than my mother, I don't know that there is anyone who could understand the significance of what this will play on my June 25th wedding day.  Before I was engaged and had the vision of myself as a bride, I always imagined a long veil flowing as I walked down the aisle to my gleaming husband-to-be.  It wasn't until about two months into the wedding planning, after I had said "YES TO THE DRESS," that I started to think about the possiblity of a birdcage veil instead.  It has now started to consume my thoughts (I know, this is crazy, but I am a fashion teacher! ... ).

So, being a type-A personality that I am - when in doubt, write a list!  Here are the advantages and disadvantages to wearing the birdcage veil instead of the fingertip veil:

Birdcage Veil; Advantages:

1. Would look better with my hair down, which is how I plan to wear it in the ceremony.  I already have purchased a flower from Etsy that I am LOVING and so excited to soon have in my own possession ... and can perfectly picture the birdcage veil, with the flower, with the hair down.
2.  Would bring the "vintage, Sweet Home Alabama" vibe that the rest of the wedding will have.  Who wouldn't want to look like Reese Witherspoon on their wedding day?
3.  The birdcage veil would be more of a fashion statement, and aren't you supposed to bring your personality and style into your wedding day?

 Birdcage Veil; Disdvantages:

1.  I have always pictured myself with the traditional fingertip veil, which is definitely the more "classic look."  When I look back at my pictures from now, will I look trendy with a birdcage veil?
2.  My mother prefers the traditional veil.
3.  Joe would probably prefer the traditional veil.

And so - what to do?  Do you prefer a birdcage or fingertip veil?  And is there a way to incorporate both?

Save-the-Dates

As promised, details on our final save-the-dates ...

As a fashion teacher with a love for design - I knew from the start of our wedding planning that our "paper products" were important to me.  Lucky me! ... I have a bridesmaid with graphic design experience & tons of talent!  Niki agreed to design both our save-the-dates & the invitations for the wedding (although after the save-the-dates ... Niki, are you still in for the invitations?!!!).  After getting lots of inspiration from my favorite wedding blogs, http://www.weddingbee.com/http://www.greenweddingshoes.com/   ... my mom & I met with Niki to share our vision!  Needless to say - she certainly delivered and created more than we could have hoped for!

Final Save-the-Dates ...

The save-the-dates were entirely designed by Niki and printed at Kinko's on their white glossy paper.  The labels were created by a girl that my mom found on Etsy to match the save-the-dates that Niki designed.  The brown envelopes are Kraft envelopes found online, and the smaller envelope is "vellum" and was also found online.  Mr. BB, his mother, aunt, and my mother spent one afternoon stuffing the envelopes and embossing the "save-the-date" on the outside with a stamp that she purchased online.  The magnet in the small envelope was designed & purchased on Vistaprint.

We are really happy with the end result!  It was worth all of the hard work!  Next step - INVITATIONS!

Save-the-Dates ... In the Mail!

It's official!  Save-the-Dates are IN THE MAIL and one giant task is checked off our to do list!  We are really happy with the end result - but were surprised at how long they ended up taking ... from picking out the envelopes/paper/stamps/magnets to getting everything printed in the right format, to collecting all of the addresses, finalizing the guest list, & FINALLY stuffing & labeling the envelopes before taking them to the post office - it was certainly an overwhelming task.  So although I am currently feeling the joy of completing them - I know it has to be short-lived, because it is now on to the invitations.  If the save-the-dates took this long, I can only imagine the amount of time it will take to perfect the invitations for my June 2011 wedding.

Stay tuned for pictures of the final save-the-dates ....

First Image is Posted!

I finally learned how to add images on my blog!  And yes, now I do realize how unbelievably easy this is to do and I should have been doing it all along!  So now I have DOZENS of images to share ... but today wanted to show my FI's fantastic birthday present to me!  He actually burned the A & J letters on the wood, plus our wedding date on there himself!  He kept this piece of wood since it looks like a heart!  How precious!  We will have it on one of the tables at our June 25, 2011 wedding and it will definitely fit our vintage theme to perfection.

Contest Entered - Fingers Crossed!

Although I have never been a particularly lucky person (other than "lucky to love," honey!) ... I decided to go ahead and register to win a $5,000 honeymoon today.  I came across it on one of my favorite blog sites, http://www.stylemepretty.com/, and simply had to write a 200 word essay on why I should win the contest.  Since I like to write (obviously, I am a blogger now!), I figured that I didn't have anything to lose.

I have seen various wedding contests/give-a-ways online throughout my daily wedding web searches, but have chosen to focus in on the ones giving away honeymoons!  I know my FI, Ms. BB appreciates this, since it is him & I that will be paying for the honeymoon that will definitely be much deserved after all of this planning.  The destination is still up in the air ... currently dependent on how much money we can save ...

Or maybe, we could win one of these contests?  I am going to search for more tomorrow, Mr. BB!  And in the meantime, keep your fingers crossed for us!

Have you entered any contests online?  Do you think it is worth the time it takes to complete them, or is it too much of a longshot?

Weekend Wedding Excitement

It's official!  This weekend - I practiced & completed my first-time role as a bridesmaid!  My friend Sara is no longer a "single lady" and is on her honeymoon in Hawaii!  The weekend began with a beautiful rehearsal/dinner at a local Italian restaurant, continued on early Saturday with a meeting of the bridesmaids to get "fabulous" for the day, and finally ... what we had all been waiting for ... Sara married her sweetheart and it was time to celebrate!

For me, the highlight of the wedding was definitely the newlyweds "first dance" as man & wife!  Sara, a former dancer, had mentioned that they had been working on a surprise for the reception - but the true montage of dances that guests were able to enjoy was completely unexpected!  Guests cheered as the two glided, hip-hopped, and entertained us all on the dance floor. :)

It got me thinking about my own first dance with Mr. BB ... neither of us are anything close to good dancers, so we are sure to go the traditional route.  We are having a hard time deciding on a song since "our song" dates back to when we first started dating in high school almost 11 years ago ... anything by Josh Radin is a current favorite.

Was it easy for you & your FI to choose a first dance song?  Was it an obvious choice or was this another decision that you had to make?

First Time Bride ... First Time Bridesmaid!

Ever heard the phrase ... "When it rains, it pours?"  Well, in this case, it does!  In the whole 27 years of my exhistance thus far, I have never been a bridesmaid in a wedding (with the exception of when I was eleven and a junior bridesmaid in my cousin's wedding - does that really count?).  HOWEVER - I guess I am officially at that age - because in the next eight months before my June 25th wedding, I will be a bridesmaid TWICE, & then once again two months after I am officially a wife! It's true, my life is surrounded by weddings right now, and it is definitely exciting. :)

This weekend marks the kick-off to my new official role as a bridesmaid.  My close friend (and one of my own bridesmaids!), Sara, is getting hitched this Saturday!  Even though we have attended several bridal showers/luncheons/nail sessions/esc., I don't think the reality that we are old enough for this process will actually hit until I see her walking down the aisle at the church.  I know she will be a stunning bride, am proud & lucky to be her bridesmaid, and find it so fitting that we have been engaged at the same time.

Details from the wedding weekend extravaganza to come next week ... it is sure to be memorable event.  And I can't help but be excited to not be one of the "single ladies" fighting over the bouquet on the dance floor.  Sara & I have been lucky to compare ideas/vendors/wedding etiquette throughout the planning process -

Were you able to plan with friends who are getting married around the same time as you?!  Did you find it helpful to your own planning process?

Guest List Woes

FINALLY ... the guest list is complete!  For me, this moment is bittersweetBitter - because there were many people that Mr. BB and I wanted to invite that we just didn't have room for ... and Sweet - because it is officially done and we don't have to worry about it anymore!  I am very thankful that you only have to compile one guest list (w/ full, complete addresses!) for both the save-the-dates and invitations! :)

Originally - my parents, Mr. BB & I decided on a guest list of 150, which seemed to be the perfect amount. Even after an initial list - we still thought the number would work for us and we would feel completely content with having 150 of our family and closest friends there.  That was until we started to REALLY think about the size of both of our families, all of those people close to us, work friends, parents friends, and the list goes on .........

I know we are both lucky to have so many people who we care about and want to be there on our big day ... and can't wait to see all of those faces closest to us on June 25, 2011.

Did you have trouble when ultimately deciding your final list?  Was the amount of people you invited the same amount that you had initially planned on?

Busy Bee ...

Only have exactly 7 minutes to write today ... in between work (which currently involves planning a fashion show), grocery shopping, cleaning, & working out in now 6 minutes ... I hardly have time to breathe right now!  Planning a wedding while juggling life is hard work!  While I am definitely loving planning my June wedding ... I am also looking forward to married life - that WILL be less stressful, right?!

Needless to say - I don't think I will be one of those brides who is sad after the wedding because the big day is over.  Brides ... Will you have "wedding withdrawal" after the wedding?  Married women ... did you?
